Bridge of Faith
Paul took this picture on the way home one day. We have made several trips over this bridge since we have known each other. The bridge is the only one that takes you to Whidbey Island, Washington. It is the Deception Pass Bridge built in 1935. They say about 20,000 cars and trucks go across the bridge every day. People, often with their children and dogs, walk on the bridge to look down at the swirling water below and other scenery. The views are beautiful. We never think about driving on it. We assume the two lane bridge will hold up for many years and we are safe from the water 180 feet below. Underneath all the cars, trucks, and people are the structures that support the bridge. All the metal, curves and angles work together to give the bridge the support we put our faith in when crossing. We don’t have to see it to trust it is working and will carry us to our destinations. We don’t have to ask the engineer for the specs of the bridge to drive on it; we trust it and go on our way. This behind the scene support is like God working in our life. Beneath us, beside us and into our future, God is at work. He knows the ins and outs of our lives. The framework is in place. He is there supporting us. All we have to do is step out and trust Him.
